Franchisors Such as Bakers Delight Must Help Their Members Meet Workers Rights
27th June, 2008
Franchisors and franchise associations must assist their franchisees to be aware of and to meet their workers lawful rights and entitlements said Australia's Workplace Ombudsman Nicholas Wilson.
We will recover monies owed to workers and potentially prosecute breaches of workplace law. Commenting on media reports that the Bakers Delight franchisor, Bakers Delight Holdings Pty Ltd (Bakers Delight Holdings) has acted to discipline the owner of their Kareela franchise; Mr Wilson repeated his call for franchisors such as Bakers Delight Holdings to provide concrete support and information to assist their franchisees to meet workers right and entitlements.
Nicholas Wilson said "It is about time Bakers Delight Holdings took some responsibility for their franchisees awareness of their obligations to their workers under workplace law".
In 2006 the Workplace Ombudsman finalised investigations into seven seperate Bakers Delight franchises in Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.
